We are much more likely to want to deal or work with people we have confidence in, we are also more likely to trust people who look confident. However push it too far and you stray into the realms of arrogance, which is as unappealing as a lack of confidence. Arrogance is very passé in today’s world of business, so by simply being bullish you’re more likely to alienate people and turn them off. At the opposite end of the continuum lack of confidence and assertiveness can not only lead to a lack of faith in the individual but your products and service by association. Confidence is a subtle mix of body language, tonality, instincts and attitude.

Our teaching is that confidence is a game of two halves; ‘inner confidence’ – which nobody can see or feel other than the individual concerned, and ‘outer confidence’ – which is the level of confidence that is perceived by the people around you. In an ideal world it would be great to fix everyone’s inner confidence. However, this is often extremely time consuming and unnecessary in a business environment, as only the ‘outer’ perceived confidence needs to be up to the mark. Very often when we improve our ‘outer confidence’ we are so taken by the results of our efforts that it gives our inner confidence a boost, which makes us outwardly more confident, and before you know it through this circular process, both inner and outer confidence are greatly improved to fantastic effect.
